The West End Lofts is a unique project that breathes new life into a historic Vancouver building originally constructed in 1912. This project presented a multifaceted challenge: honoring the building's heritage while transforming it into modern, functional living spaces. Our solution involved meticulous restoration of the building's facade, including the original brickwork and ornate detailing. Inside, a complete gut renovation utilizes innovative sustainable materials and technologies. The lofts will achieve LEED Gold certification through features like high-efficiency heating and cooling systems, water-saving fixtures, and a rooftop solar panel array that will generate a significant portion of the building's power.
Challenges & Solutions:
Preserving Heritage Features: ALAE Development partnered with heritage restoration specialists to meticulously restore the building's exterior facade, preserving its historical character.
Maximizing Space & Light: The original floor plan presented limitations for modern living spaces. Our solution involved creative reconfiguration and the incorporation of light wells to ensure ample natural light throughout the lofts.
Sustainable Practices: The West End Lofts prioritizes sustainability. We're utilizing recycled and locally sourced materials whenever possible, and the building will boast a rainwater harvesting system for irrigation and toilet flushing.
